Wendy Allen

Picture of Wendy AllenWendy Allen is a former Baldwin County Commissioner who was instrumental in initiating a long range plan for the county, the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance, and facilitating the first Council of Governments to discuss the GIS program for the county. Wendy was an original co-chair for Envision Coastal Alabama and continues to be an advisory board member. She is a Policy Board member for the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program. Wendy was appointed to the State Environmental Initiatives Commission.

Charlene Lee

Picture of Charlene LeeCharlene Lee has extensive experience in behavior change that comes from previous employment in adolescent psychiatry and alternative juvenile corrections. She has provided consulting services for diverse clients in the areas of program/staff development, and teambuilding. Ms. Lee spearheaded an effort involving 3000 volunteers in the building of a community park that has since been duplicated in a number of other communities.  In 2000, she was commissioned by the city of Fairhope, AL to research sustainable communities and present her findings to the mayor and city council.  She has served on the Executive Committee for Envision Coastal Alabama. Charlene served as co-chair of the Historic Fairhope Preservation Committee and helped initiate their annual Homes Tour.

Build a healthy coastal region by empowering and inspiring local citizens through education, research, and dialogue.

SMART COAST VALUE STATEMENTS

SMART COAST STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: 

Smart Coast promotes balanced development through greater citizen participation in Gulf Coast planning.

SMART COAST OBJECTIVES:

Provide educational forums to facilitate the creation of action teams
    Through:

  • Conferences, workshops and Town or "issue" meetings which are topic or issue specific
  • Action teams are citizens who come together around an issue, project, or community planning. They are lead by a champion and act independently within their community.

This objective will be accomplished by:

  • Gathering relevant data and public input
  • Building coalitions around critical issues in the coastal region
  • Encouraging thoughtful balanced dialogue around the concept of regional  planning
